2021 Christmas Search TrendsHow early is Christmas shopping starting this year?  A review of Google trends for the term ‘Christmas Gifts’ shows a 20% increase over 2020 starting the beginning October 1st.  It’s also up a whopping 40% over 2019 numbers.  It still not the volume spike that you see later in November but it’s a big enough shift that brands should take note.

We’re also seeing this trend for holiday specific items including branded holiday gifts and true seasonal items like ornaments.  Yeoman studies sales of branded seasonal gift baskets and ornaments on Amazon for the past three week.  Holiday themed gift baskets are up 30% vs 2020 and ornament sales are up a whopping 150% vs 2020.

To be clear, its not the holiday volume you see after Thanksgiving, but their ‘early shift’ will continue to accelerate.
